Goodnight
01:53
|
|||
I’d say anything at all
Just to chase away the night
And though these broken metaphors could fall
So neatly into rhyme,
I can’t find anything
Let my silence fill the dark
Til the chords start falling slow
But the morning hours resolve upon
A fragile strand of notes
That won’t hold anything
Now it all spins madly out of sight
But I have never learned to see defeat
Armed with my denial I will fight
As though these lonesome melodies could bring relief

On Your Way
04:04
|
|||
winter closed you in
trapped you in her cold ‘til you unfolded
and you bent to her will
waiting for escape
you found it sitting by your side
and you were not the same after that
you were on your way
first the best of friends
adding up the differences
and making them make sense as you go
flipping through disguises
clark and lois, joe and marilyn,
the one that fits just right you’ve gotta hold
you were on your way
seasons fade and
winter passes melt away
all the old mistakes fall through
the picture framed
in a moment, everything changed
you’ve got the proof
Standing on the edge
nothing in between you but
a few words to be said and that’s all
you have found your way home

Man On Wire
03:52
|
|||
picture them rising up from the ground
great silver statues that reach to the clouds
twins standing guard over Long Island Sound
they would be
everyone said in plain disbelief
it's just a dream
think of the beauty, imagine the sight -
a man on a string on the edge of the sky
careless and free, on a canvas of white
he would be
everyone said in plain disbelief
it's just a dream
oh, what a day for a walk
one summer morning, strung in in between,
out on a wire, was little Phillipe
dancing across for the whole world to see
And everyone said in amazed disbelief
it's like a dream

Seventeen
02:56
|
|||
we were only seventeen
when you jumped from the ledge and I followed you in
cause the river was stronger than it seemed
from up at the top where we stood on the rocks
so sure of our spot in the sun
we walked between the apple trees
tracing the path on your grandfather’s map
but a treasure hunt’s not what it used to be
so we offered our thoughts about gossip and God
and the places we’d want to be from
we lived inside a movie scene
those nights by the lake, all the songs that we sang
but no one knew more than the melody
so the words we made up had to be good enough
la da de da da dee dum
summer was fading on the breeze
when i first felt your lips at the end of my kiss
like a vision of what we’d become

Temptations
02:41
|
|||
he opens up his window
and leans into night
there's something calling, something calling him
out into the shadows,
tugging at his life
with an empty promise to break his fall tonight
he's not less happy here
than he would be at the bottom
and he knows it, so he's frozen
holding fast to fear
'cause that's all that life has taught him
but now he's slowly turning toward release.
and it's always
been his dream
to fly
to spread out
his broken wings
and leave it all behind.

Gone
04:23
|
|||
staring at the empty walls
waiting for the flood to hit you like a
shudder deep inside the faults
between your heart and mind
words can tear the world apart
and the fractures shot right through you
when they said hang on with all you've got
cause memories can't rewind
and she’s gone, gone, gone.
oh - i won’t let you fall, i won’t let you fall
stepping to the narrow edge
praying for the rush to fill you with the
silence of an empty head
away from all the ghosts
rebellion became regret
when you stopped to wonder how it took so
long for you to reach the end
of this hollow road
And she's gone, still gone
i won’t let you fall

I write songs about ideas and characters I find interesting. I've always been fascinated by the grey areas in life, and writing music is one of the best ways I've found to explore the nuances.
